Manaslu Trek is remote and once past the foothill villages, enters a valley system that has seen little change over time. Wilderness trekking in Manaslu region is mainly inhabited by Gurungs, a Tibeto-Burman people who practice Buddhism, but in the lower regions with influences of Hinduism. Mount Manaslu (8163m/26783ft, “Mountain of the Spirit” and eighth highest peak, lies west of Kathmandu and east of the Annapurna Region. In the high areas of the Nupri Valley, behind Manaslu, the people are purely Tibetan, having moved south and fairly preserved their local customs. The whole region has been largely ignored by development from the south and so remains poor, but culturally rich.
